Adventure Island in Tampa is only open mid-March through mid-October. Make sure you know when the adventure season begins. This park is across the street from Busch Gardens and has 30 acres of fun-filled water attractions.
If you can swing a visit during the week, do that. Weekends can be busy and lines can be long. There are lockers available to store things you don't want to get wet.
Grab a tube or swim around in the giant wave pool. Kids can get wild in Fabian's Fun Port, where there's a water jungle gym, a kid-sized wave pool and bubbling springs galore.
Hit the volleyball around with friends on the sand courts. At Paradise Lagoon you can swing along vines, cliff jump and walk beneath cool waterfalls. When you're done, float along the Rambling Bayou in an inner tube.
There are also lots of rides at Adventure Island. On the Everglides you'll slide down a 72-foot slide on a toboggan and then skid across the water before stopping. The Caribbean Corkscrew sends you whirling through intertwining tubes for 230 feet.
Race your friends to the bottom of Riptide -- the four lane mat slide. You might be screaming on Gulf Scream, the speedy 210-foot body slide. Get the whole family in on the fun on the Wahoo Run. This five person tube ride will have everyone soaked and shrieking with joy.
Several food choices include Mango Joe's, Bayou Beach Club, Surfside Cafe, Surfside Ice Cream and Gulf Side Ice Cream.
HelloTampa Tip: Florida residents get cheaper admission, and sometimes there are discounts available on the Adventure Island website.
